Technology is advancing at an ever increasing rate. Dr. Parmley takes advantage of these improvements in technology to ensure his patients receive the best possible results from their procedures.
Dr. Parmley uses Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP™) to treat periodontal disease. LANAP™ has many advantages over standard gum surgical procedures.
Periodontal Disease
Calculus deposits harbor bacteria which infect the gums. In early stages, this is called Gingivitis, characterized by red, swollen gums that bleed when you brush your teeth. Many people experience bad breath and an unpleasant taste in their mouths as well.
Unchecked, Gingivitis progresses to Periodontitis, a much more serious form of the disease where periodontal pockets are formed, separating teeth from the gums and supporting bone structure. Without treatment, infection becomes severe and the pockets deepen, resulting in tooth loss.
The way to repair the damage is to get rid of the infection and close up the pockets. Until now, that meant surgical procedures and sutures. Dr. Parmley offers Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP™), a patient-friendly, minimally-invasive procedure that’s a great improvement over standard gum surgical procedures.
The Benefits
Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP™) is an amazing breakthrough in periodontal treatments which provides great benefits:
-
Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP™) is about as easy as erasing a blackboard — there’s no cutting and no suturing.
-
There's much less discomfort with LANAP™ than with standard surgical procedures — during and after the procedure.
-
It does not take any more time than traditional surgical procedures. All it takes is one 3 to 4 hour visit and three follow up visits.
-
It gives better, longer-lasting results. In fact, 95% of treated patients remain stable after five years.
-
Following traditional surgical procedures, recovery can take between to 2-4 weeks during which patients can experience pain and swelling and may require a liquid diet.
-
With LANAP™, there’s less than a 24 hour recovery period, so you won't lose time from work.
-
Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP™) is safe for patients with health concerns such as diabetes, HIV, hemophilia, or those taking medications such as Coumadin or Cyclosporin.
The Procedure
Because your resistance to disease is affected by many factors, we will begin your first visit with a review your dental and medical histories. This is followed by a thorough periodontal examination of your mouth. At your second appointment, the findings and a recommended treatment plan will be reviewed with you. You may find it helpful to bring your spouse or a friend with you to this appointment. Many patients find such a person’s opinion very valuable. In most cases, no treatment is performed at this appointment.
When you return for your first treatment appointment, you'll receive conscious IV sedation and a local anesthetic to eliminate any possible discomfort.
A small laser fiber is inserted between the tooth and the gum, and the infection is cleared away. The procedure is fast: It takes just one 3 to 4-hour session. Dr. Parmley will treat the entire mouth at once... and you'll probably feel good enough to go right back to work the next day.
